A sobering new study to be published in "Nature." If we do nothing about climate change (fossil fuel addiction) by 2023 we can expect to see catastrophic climate changes in the tropics and extreme weather in the northern hemisphere as well. By 2036 we, on the rest of the planet will start to see catastrophic climate changes leading to severe times by 2047 that will make life extremely difficult. If we do start now to greatly curtail our CO2 emissions, we can push these times back, but can't no longer expect to avoid what's coming (only reduce some of the harshness). We have blown it already, question is how much punishment do we want to lay on our children and future generations?
Below is a video called Applied Frackonomics. I think you will find it educational and inspiring. In it is all the techniques industry uses to get their way.
youtube.com/watch?v=ySRJ8DSRNSU "Glyphosate is a key ingredient of Monsanto’s flagship weedkiller well-known under the trade name ‘Roundup.' It is one of the most heavily used herbicides in the world and is designed to go along with genetically-modified "Roundup Ready" crops, also produced by Monsanto." I bet every soybean & corn crop in OK of a large size is "Roundup Ready." Can you believe the guys in the field below are farm workers? I am glad they finally get to protect themselves in some way, but holly s##/t what a way to farm!!! From our family to yours! This all runs off into our ponds and streams. More and more crops are produced with GMO seeds from Monsanto and others to withstand herbicides and pesticides that they also make and sell along with the seeds. Banks won't make crop loans with the that combination. What a scam!! And we eat in our cereal and other foods. Wonder why they don't want labeling???
Two more cities voted to go 100% renewable energy!! Massachusetts could be the first state to do so. We should push our cities no matter how large or small to do this. This will be how we win!!
http://www.ecowatch.com/pueblo-moab-renewable-energy-2262956426.html Our sad commentary as a species!! Human pollution has reached the deepest parts of the Pacific Ocean. Worse yet,
it is our worst form of pollution, PCB, a carcinogen, which is now found 6 miles deep in the deepest trenches in the crustaceans taken as samples from there. We have now proven that our pollution has reached every part of our planet. We should be ashamed!! http://www.iflscience.com/environment/chemical-pollution-found-in-animals-living-in-the-deepest-oceans/ Some people seem to like it better when I stick to the environment (which I am known for) instead of politics. But, war is worse for the environment than the local or regional fights we are undertaking right now on fracking, pipelines, bomb trains, water quality, etc. Our blocking actions against fossil fuels may panic the war machine in a way but probably not. The manufacture of products for war, along with war itself, wreak havoc to the environment, not just where war is waged but to our global climate. As this article states, those who were against the war that held positions of influence in the media were against the Iraq war (or even the Afghanistan war) are gone and never called on or hold any media position now. Media people and their experts don't seem to question or give rationale for why we shouldn't give arms to Saudi Arabia, for example, so they can continue bombing Yemeni. Or, how the Syria conflict was started by long term drought resulting in peaceful demonstrations during the Arab Spring that resulted in Assad's evil war against them and the opening of the door for Al Qaida, which morphed into isis there. I know this is simplistic, but what I am getting at is that as long as we, our military might, decide our "power" in the world, and that the world bases how nations treat and respect each other according the capability of their armies, then we are doomed to fossil fuel addition beyond our ability to control CO 2 or methane levels that will keep us within safe limits to avert catastrophic results. Our national, and therefore international, politics is our greatest environmental threat!! Who we elect NOW could mean the difference. THE CYCLE OF HATE IN THE WORLD IS AS BAD AS OUR ADDITION TO FOSSIL FUELS!!! Removing civilian power from fossil fuels is a big step but what about our military
dependence and our war machine’s need for war to manufacture and sell arms to conflicts? Are we factoring this in to our global warming calculations? If only humans realized that the health of our Mother Earth is related to how human beings on Earth treat each other. Hate, fear, suspicion, war and brutality when combined with unprecedented ecological destruction on a global scale due to human causes for lack of caring can only take us so far as a species. There is a point where the Earth will react in kind with catastrophic results. The answer is too simple for most to understand and/or accept: LOVE! When humans learn to love each other and their place on this Earth, they will finally become true Human Beings, and will have returned to the Garden! Here is a new worry for a lot of people. A chemical the EPA has not set a standard for, used in the manufacture of Teflon pans, Gore-Tex jackets, ski wax, carpets and the linings of pizza boxes and microwave popcorn bags so keep them slick, called PFOA, or perfluorooctanoic acid, also called C8, is showing up in drinking water around the country where this chemical is being used, also it’s cousin perfluorooctane sulfonate, or PFOS, which is used in firefighting foam. Of 4,764 water supplies, 103 systems in 29 states had trace amounts of PFOA, but none exceeded 400 parts per trillion, EPA's advisory level for short-term exposure — water you drink for only a few weeks. Seven had levels slightly over 100 ppt (parts per trillion), the new advisory level for long-term exposure — for the water you drink for years — that the EPA is expected to set this spring. More recently, testing turned up PFOA at about 100 ppt in drinking water in nearby Petersburg, New York, and North Bennington, Vermont, which also had plastics plants. On Tuesday, Vermont officials said a second round of water testing in North Bennington yielded readings of up to 2,730 ppt. "I would consider it an urgent priority to decrease exposures," said Philippe Grandjean, a researcher at the Harvard School of Public Health who believes the 100 ppt safe-exposure level EPA is proposing is still 100 times too high. In reading the article we find that kidney cancer is the prevalent disease caused by drinking the water with this chemical exposure. Nothing is said about the streams that carry it, i.e., effects on fish, wildlife, etc. Or, effects on humans that swim in the water or eat the fish and other aquatic life or wildlife that depend on the aquatic life, such as ducks, geese, etc. Makes me wonder, with CAFOS (hormones, antibiotics, arsenic, etc), situations like Flint, MI, and now this, What the Hell Else is in Our Drinking Water??? A new study shows the US drinking water infrastructure dates back to the 1930’s. It will 6.3 billion to fix Oklahoma’s drinking water infrastructure! Maybe it’s time to cut more taxes, and to give more subsidies and breaks to the Oil and Gas industry!! http://www.phillyvoice.com/activists-demand-action-against-industrial-chemica/ Oregon is ending the use of coal and setting standard for 50% renewable energy!
_ http://www.governing.com/topics/transportation-infrastructure/gov-oregon-coal-law-west.html The Dine’ people living near this plant don’t have electricity! Most of the coal is crushed and mixed in slurry then sent via pipeline to power plants that supply energy to Phoenix, Las Vegas and Los Angles and other cities around them.
