Superfund 35th Anniversary Party

This December marks the 35th year of EPA's Superfund program. The Superfund was designed to clean up toxic waste sites immediately and seek reimbursement from polluters later: clean up now and bill later approach. Congress allowed for a special tax on chemical and oil industries to keep the Superfund funded. As you may know the polluter pay fees have been eliminated since 1995. As a result the program does not have enough funds or stability to adequately cleanup sites across the country.
More than ever we need to get serious about asking Congress to reauthorize the Superfund tax. Because those Acts of Congress, we the people are paying for them, and that's not right. You and I did nothing to pollute that mess or the other messes companies across the country made good money while creating their messes.
Superfund is having a birthday this week, she will be 35 years old. If you are up to it, come on over to the LEAD Agency Dec. 10 at 5:30, we will meet you on the front porch at our office, 223 A. St. S. E.. We'll light the candles on the cake and make that wish that our lands, our water and our air will be clean one day and that Superfund will get her tax back to help that happen.
