Sept. 15, 16, 17, of 2008
at Miami Civic Center,
129 5th Ave NW,
Miami, OK
The 10th National Conference on Tar Creek showcased local, tribal, state and federal efforts to deal with the large and complex issues involved in solving the environmental and human health impacts of the Tar Creek Superfund Site.
This year's fall theme was OU 4 OU5 We're in OVERTIME at Tar Creek.
It reminded us that the attempts by EPA at Tar Crek are called OU's for Operable Units for the pieces or units this superfund site has been divided into for work, and that we are in OVERTIME for resolving the problems here and for restoring our lands and waters to protect the environment and all of our people.
The conference brought research scientist from Oklahoma and across the nation to discuss their work on Tar Creek's many challenges. This event also gathered youth, service learning and citizens together to hear the plans and progress being discussed and meet those involved.
This year, the Tar Creek Conference endeavored to be inclusive of all affected and interested parties. Knowing the damages and focusing on solutions help us to find hope for a clean and safe Ottawa County and for all who live downstream.
