Making a Difference
Making a Difference at the Tar Creek Superfund Site: Community Efforts to Reduce Risk is a book that we hope will inspire other communities facing environmental injustices. It comes with a DVD featuring a new film Progress at Tar Creek and two films of youth efforts through service learning. The first printing was made possible through a grant from the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences.

Thank you for sharing our vision to make a difference. There is still more to be done.  LEAD Agency will accept donations to reproduce additonal copies and to allow for postage.

Blogging is a means for keeping the public posted on important issues. Bloggers learn from the feedback they receive about their posts. An important point to note is that environmental blogs provide a venue for guest authors to respond to environmental issues that are of importance. No driving required!

Ewan McIntosh, an educator in Scotland, has an exceptional blog regarding social participative media, education and the future. One of his musings really hit home about the challenges we face when promoting environmental change and is addressed in our own blog. McIntosh's writing follows:

Never Mistake a Clear View as a Short Distance

The challenge for those trying to predict the future is that, at one stage on the uptake curve you're made to look foolish as no-one joins you in the adoption of the technology. After a while, you give up on that bandwagon and think about what is worth betting your efforts on next. Just as you give up on it everyone else starts to adopt. You therefore look foolish twice over. I've written off many a fashion faux pas on that S curve theory.

Back to reasons to blog--this one was found on a site that linked to McIntosh's:

"If we give some good stuff to other people, we might get some good stuff back, like nice comments, or someone answering a question we’ve asked, or telling us something really good we didn’t know about."
This sums up our hope for the LEAD Evolution blog.

Have you heard of Twitter? It is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people using the web, your phone, or IM. With Twitter, you can stay hyper–connected to your friends and issues of importance and always know what is going on. You can even set quiet times on Twitter so you’re not interrupted. The point being, Twitter puts you in control and becomes a helpful antidote to information overload.

What do you think about environmental blogs? We would love to hear from you.
